Penpro Indonesia and Elsevier Partner to Empower Indonesian Researchers and Expand Access to Educational Resources
Singapore, October 19, 2024 – In a move set to significantly boost Indonesia’s research capabilities and broaden access to critical academic resources, LSP Penerbitan and Penpro Indonesia have joined forces with Elsevier, a global leader in information and analytics for researchers and journal publishing. Mr. Lutfi Trisandi Rizki and Aris Winarna, as representatives from Penpro and LSP Penerbitan, met with Kavid Yagnik, Elsevier’s Regional Director-Solution Sales ANZ/SE/SEA, on October 18, 2024, at Elsevier’s Singapore office to initiate the partnership.
This incoming collaboration shall address a critical need in Indonesia’s academic landscape. While Elsevier Indonesia has traditionally focused on marketing efforts, this partnership with Penpro aims to foster capacity building among Indonesian researchers and journal management personnel. By providing upskilling and reskilling opportunities, the initiative seeks to empower Indonesian academics to publish in internationally recognized journals under Elsevier and Scopus, raising the profile of Indonesian research on the global stage.
“This partnership is beyond increasing Indonesian publications performance,” says Lutfi Trisandi Rizki, representative of Penpro and LSP Penerbitan. “It’s about equipping Indonesian researchers with the skills and knowledge to produce high-quality research that can contribute to solving global challenges.”
A key aspect of the partnership involves expanding access to Elsevier’s renowned database and analytical system. Currently, usage is largely concentrated within the top fifty universities (PTNBH) in Indonesia. This collaboration aims to extend access to tier 2 universities by establishing shared facilities, ensuring a wider range of institutions can benefit from Elsevier’s comprehensive resources.
“Access to information is crucial for academic advancement,” states Aris Winarna, also representing Penpro LSP Penerbitan. “By democratizing access to Elsevier’s resources, we are investing in the future of Indonesian research and education.”
To kickstart the initiative, an online program for editors, librarians, and journal managers will be launched. Elsevier will host 10-20 librarians for certification from Penpro and LSP Penerbitan, providing them with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage academic journals.
This partnership signifies a major step forward for Indonesian academia. By combining Elsevier’s global expertise and resources with Penpro’s local knowledge and network, the initiative is poised to significantly enhance Indonesia’s research output and improve the quality of its academic journals. This collaboration promises to empower a new generation of Indonesian researchers and contribute to the country’s growing influence in the global academic community.
